Cast

Below is a list of the original and current leading cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz. We try to keep this page up to date but if you know of any missing cast members, please get in touch by leaving a comment at the bottom of this page.

Current Cast Members

Taking over from Danielle Hope, the lead role of Dorothy is currently being played by Sophie Evans. Sophie became a familiar face on the television screens of Britain after she starred in the BBC1 show Over The Rainbow, which saw Lord Lloyd Webber scouring the country in search of his Dorothy. Sophie came second in the show and started off playing the role of alternate Dorothy until she was awarded the full time role in February 2012. The Wizard of Oz marks Sophie’s West End debut.

 

Playing two roles of Professor Marvel and the title role of the Wizard is Des O’Conner. Des, who is in his eighties, is the oldest actor yet to play the Wizard. Prior to Des Russel Grant fulfilled the role for 12 weeks, having taken over from theatre veteran Michael Crawford, Russell was awarded the role following his stint on ITV’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Acting as the Scarecrow is Olivier-nominated actor Paul Keating. Keating has appeared in several television shows such as The Bill, EastEnders and Casualty, as well as appearing in The Little Shop of Horrors, at the West End, amongst other shows.

 

South African actor Edward Baker-Duly is originating the role of the Tin Man is the show. He has acted in ITV1 soap Emmerdale as well as previously appearing on the West End stage in the 2008 adaptation of Gone With The Wind.

 

The part of the Cowardly Lion is played by David Ganly. He has performed both on the West End and Broadway stages, having acted in musicals such as Chicago, The Full Monty, Grease and The Sound of Music.

Marianne Benedict plays the cackling role of the Wicked Witch of the West. She has previously performed on the West End stage in hit musicals such as We Will Rock You and Dirty Dancing.

The opposing role of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North is played by Emily Tierney. Emily is no stranger to performing in a musical with the witches of Oz, having previously starred in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria in London. Her other credits include acting in Titanic the Musical and playing Maria in West Side Story at the Barbican.
